Synopsis
A moving reminder that love endures, even when memory does not. Dementia affects countless families, yet Nansie offers an unusually tender window into one - the Miller family of Sydney. Sisters Adelaide and Lucinda share a deep devotion to their grandmother Ann, affectionately known as “Nansie,” who once helped raise them and remains central to their lives, even as dementia gradually reshapes hers. Her days shift between clarity, sweetness, confusion and frustration, but rather than resisting or correcting her, the sisters gently step into her world - cherishing her humour, her stories and her irrepressible spirit. When Nansie insists she swims in the ocean each morning, despite never having learned, they take her to the beaches she loves, creating moments of joy and closeness amidst the challenges. Filmed with rare intimacy by director Anna Trichet-Laurier, Nansie is an honest yet uplifting portrait of care, resilience and the enduring power of love. With Sydney’s coastline as a luminous backdrop, this unforgettable documentary reveals not just the struggles of dementia, but the warmth, laughter and humanity that continue to shine through.
