Synopsis
BROKEN ENGLISH is a moving and inventive portrait of the extraordinary life and career of legendary singer, songwriter and actor Marianne Faithfull. Directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, and featuring appearances from Tilda Swinton, George MacKay, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, it revisits the many lives Faithfull lived, from 1960s icon and musical trailblazer to one of contemporary music's most enduring and uncompromising voices. Drawing on archival material, interviews and reflective conversations with Faithfull herself, BROKEN ENGLISH reclaims a legacy too often overshadowed by myth and tabloid fascination, revealing an artist of remarkable resilience, wit and reinvention. Culminating in Faithfull's final recorded musical performance, it is both a celebration of a singular talent and a poignant farewell to one of popular culture's most fascinating figures.
