Synopsis
From Academy Award-winning writer-director James L. Brooks (As Good as It Gets, Terms of Endearment, The Simpsons) comes ELLA MCCAY, a heartfelt new comedy about ambition, family, and the beautiful chaos of trying to balance both. Ella McCay (Emma Mackey) is a bright, idealistic young politician whose career is on a meteoric rise. As she prepares to step into the role of her longtime mentor - the state’s revered yet retiring governor - Ella finds herself navigating a minefield of political pressures, public expectations, and deeply complicated family dynamics. Surrounded by an eclectic ensemble of loved ones and colleagues - played by an all-star cast including Jamie Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, Jack Lowden, Kumail Nanjiani, Spike Fearn, and Ayo Edebiri - Ella must walk a tightrope between who she wants to be at home and who she needs to be in office. Blending sharp humour, heartfelt moments, and charm reminiscent of classic films of the late 80s to mid 90s, ELLA MCCAY is a hilariously delightful exploration of dysfunctional families, personal resilience, and the messy yet meaningful path to finding one’s place in the world.
