Synopsis
From the producers of the Oscar-nominated hit "Corpus Christi", critically acclaimed "The Last Family" and "Carte Blanche” comes another powerful drama inspired by true events. “Backwords” is an emotional story showcasing female strength in a mother’s relentless battle to secure the best possible future for her autistic son. Set in 1990s Poland, "Backwards" follows Maryśka, a determined mother confronting the harsh realities of societal ignorance and prejudice surrounding autism. When Maryśka finally receives her son’s diagnosis, she is faced with an inflexible education system that insists on segregating neurodivergent children. Refusing to accept the status quo, Maryśka embarks on a tireless fight against bureaucracy and human heartlessness. Fueled by a deep sense of injustice and her unconditional love for Śubuk, she becomes a formidable force for change, ultimately leading to significant reforms in the Polish education system. "Backwards" is a stirring testament to the power of maternal love and the resilience of the human spirit. Led by a remarkable performance from Małgorzata Gorol as Maryśka, and supported by a stellar cast including Andrzej Seweryn (The Last Family) and Aleksandra Konieczna (multiple winner of Polish Film Awards “The Eagles”), the film promises to resonate deeply with audiences, offering a message of hope and showcasing the transformative impact of fighting for what truly matters.
