The greatest of all Romantic era ballets, Peter Wright’s production of Marius Petipa’s classic, set to Adolphe Adam’s exquisite score, is a tale of betrayal, the supernatural and love that transcends death. Recorded in 2016, this much-loved staging stars principal dancers Marianela Nuñez as the innocent peasant girl Giselle and Vadim Muntagirov as her duplicitous lover Albrect. A ballet of two contrasting worlds, Act I requires the ballerina to appear naive and artless, her dancing alive with earthy enthusiasm. In Act II she transforms into light and air as she exists in a spectral, moonlit beauty. Simply stunning on the big screen.
