Synopsis
No one knows your heart like a sister. From BAFTA nominated director Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean), comes the adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel, SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, a sweeping period drama that follows three sisters’ experiences of love, loss and heartbreak. Following the death of their father, the Dashwood sisters; the sensible and prudent Elinor, the romantic and passionate Marianne, and the young Margaret, and their mother are left financially destitute, when their family estate, Norland Park, is left to their half-brother John on the basis of a law that limits the transfer of property to male heirs. Although he is instructed to take care of his sisters, John is dissuaded of his duty by his greedy wife and they are forced to move to Barton Cottage in rural Devonshire, offered to them by a generous relative Sir John Middleton. Before leaving Norland, Elinor forms a quiet connection to Edward Ferrars, the brother of John’s wife, but they are separated when she moves and discovers his prior engagement to Lucy Steele. While Marianne struggles with her romantic aspirations when she must choose between the young and attractive John Willoughby and the older and sensible Colonel Brandon. Featuring an outstanding lead cast, including Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) as Elinor, Esmé Creed-Miles (Hanna) as Marianne, BAFTA nominee George MacKay (1917) as Edward, Golden Globe nominee Caitríona Balfe (Outlander) as Mrs. Dashwood and BAFTA winner Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve) as Mrs. Jennings, SENSE AND SENSIBILITY artfully explores the contention between living by your head or by your heart, showcasing that by having a balance of both rational thought (sense) and genuine feeling (sensibility) one will live a truly content life.
