Synopsis

From Academy Award nominated director Jan Komasa, THE GOOD BOY is a twisted thriller that unfolds like a dark fairy tale. 19-year-old hooligan Tommy (Anson Boon) revels in a life of drugs, parties, and violence. One night, on a bender with his reckless friends, he becomes separated from the group and is abducted by an unknown figure (Stephen Graham). Though he is no stranger to inflicting violence, he is enraged and horrified when he wakes to find himself chained in the basement of the isolated suburban family home of Chris (Graham), his near-spectral wife Kathryn (Andrea Riseborough), and their young son Jonathan (Kit Rakusen). The family sets out to reform Tommy's unruly behavior, forcing him to comply with their relentless mind games or seek escape at any cost. Featuring powerhouse performances from Golden Globe and Emmy winner Stephen Graham and Academy Award and BAFTA nominee Andrea Riseborough, THE GOOD BOY is a razor-sharp British psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the final frame.

Reviews

Boon’s already considerable charisma is somehow magnified by Tommy’s incarceration and Graham and Riseborough prove yet again that they can find humanity in even the most disturbing characters.

The Times

There's a pitch-black comical undertone to this unnerving dramatic thriller, making it impossible to look away from the screen as the offbeat story unfolds in unpredictable directions.

Shadows on the Wall

This is a curious, unsettling picture, with parallels to A Clockwork Orange: in this meeting of monsters, Chris is every bit as repellent and inhuman as Tommy at his rampaging worst.
